The name Mysore brings the image of its royal foundation in one’s mind. It is one of the South India’s famous tourist destinations and is also known for its royal heritage and magnificient monuments.

1.Mysore Palace

Mysore Palace, also known as Mysore Maharaja Palace is one of the most visited monuments in India and also one of the most imposing architectural buildings in the country. You will be completely mesmerized by the sight of the palace illuminated by over 98000 bulbs in the night (7pm — 8pm only on Sunday).

Timings: 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM

2. St. Philomena’s Cathedral

The 200-year old St. Philomena’s Church is also called as St. Joseph’s Church. Initially built as a small church was then reconstructed by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar and now it is one of the largest Cathedrals in the whole South Asia.

It is an interesting church indeed — dedicated to a Greek saint, built by a French architect, for the British soldiers, in the German style, paid for by a Hindu king!

Timings: 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM

3. Sri Chamundeshwari Temple

Being one of the oldest temples in the palace city of Mysore, the temple is a must-visit attraction for the travellers. The Chamundeshwari Temple is considered as a Shakti Peetha and is one among the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas. Located on the top of the peak this is not only a sacred place but also caters to the 360-degree view of the city and one of the famous places to visit in Mysore. Homing the deity of Goddess Durga, devotees from all over the map come here to seek her blessings.

Timing: 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM, 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM, 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM

4.Tipu Sultan Summer Palace

Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, is an example of Indo-Islamic architecture and was the summer residence of the Mysorean ruler Tipu Sultan. it is built entirely in teak wood. It is fully covered from the sun for protection so its delicate paintings are not damaged with time. It is one of the best thing to visit in Mysore.

Timing: All days opened from 8:30am to 5:30pm

5. Lalitha Palace

The second largest palace in Mysore, Lalitha Mahal Palace is situated near Chamundi Hills and has been in existence since 1921. Pure white in colour, the Palace was transformed into a heritage hotel in 1974 and is now maintained by the Government of Karnataka. You must have seen this palace in KGF and Mard movie. This Palace was gifted by the Mysore Maharaja to his sister. Inside the palace, they will serve tea/coffee to visitors with biscuits.

Timings: 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM

6.Brindavan Gardens

Brindavan Gardens is situated below Krishnaraja Sagar dam. It is a major tourist attraction for all the Mysore and KRS dam visitors. It is one of the most beautiful gardens in the state of Karnataka.

The most popular and exciting experience at this garden is the musical fountain that is scheduled in the evenings. Best time to visit in evening only.

7.Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

Ranganathaswamy Temple, a beautifully carved temple complex, is located in Srirangapatna in the south-western state of Karnataka, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ranganatha who is an avatar of Lord Vishnu in Hindu religion.

The idol of Lord Ranganatha is seen in a reclining posture over the Sheshanaga and it must be included on your list of places to visit.
